air-chiefs home coming

Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne will be retiring on December 31, 2013 after a glorious and spectacular career spanning 40 years in the IAF. We are proud of him because he was born and brought up here and groomed into a citizen worthy of occupying one of the highest Defence posts in the country.

The nation is proud of him because of his exemplary record in service. During his distinguished service of four decades, Air Chief Browne held almost all  significant operational and staff appointments that any Air Force officer could aspire for. Accompanied by his wife Kiran, he arrived in Allahabad on Sunday on his farewell visit to Headquarters, Central Air Command(CAC). While he was busy with various engagements , addressing air-warriors and civilian personnel and interacting with the commanders of all stations under the jurisdiction of the CAC and also releasing the  Coffee Table Book of the Central Air Command,  Mrs Brown interacted with  Harminder Chauhan, President  AFWWA (Regional). In a way this pre-retirement home coming has been combined with official duties.   Both will leave for Delhi in the afternoon today.
I have known the family since 1962—when he was an eleven year old boy. I worked with one of his uncles for five years . He was my colleague in the now defunct English daily, ‘The Leader’ and was the Sports Reporter there. I have known his other uncles too and of course his well-known  aunt Asha Browne , a star drama artiste, a radio luminary and a TV compere too . The Patrika congratulates him when he is on the verge of retirement on having done his job in an exemplary manner and wish  both of them  all the best in the New Year that would follow—and thereafter, year after year may the Lord bless them.
