amitabh bachchan mela

Some weeks ago there was a report indicating that Amitabh Bachchan may come to Allahabad to take a dip in the Sangam and revive his golden memories of the era when he stayed here on Clive Road.  Amitabh has especial fascination for Sangam as during his boyhood his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan would bring him here and take him for Barre Hanumanji’s darshan. Amit would be holding his finger and trudging along.  Those ‘darshans’ of Barre Hanumanji did prove lucky as there he presumably received divine blessings for a bright career ahead. He may bring his entire family including the tiny grand-daughter to be blessed by the deity.

There are reports that Tushar Kapoor has already come and gone after taking a dip. Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna too are expected.  Shilpa Shetty has already come and gone.
Since the Mahakumbh is receiving world-wide attention, it is but natural that film folks too should evince so much interest. If I remember rightly in B.R.Chopra’s first film ‘Afsana’ the Kumbh Mela of Allahabad played a major role in the film’s story as a child got lost here; and the rest of it followed. It was in this film that at the Kumbh Mela, a beggar was heard singing, ‘Duniya ek kahani re bhaiya...’ The hint of child getting lost was there in the line, ‘Kas ke dor pakarna bitiya, karna na nadani, isi dor mein bandhi hui hai teri prem kahani re bhaiya, duniya ek kahani re bhaiya, duniya ek kahani,  is duniya ke mele main koi raja hai na ranee...’ Who knows some imaginative story writer or film maker gets inspiration to make a film with a story that could be having links with the Mahakumbh too!
