It was something well anticipated as the UPA candidate, Mr. Hamid Ansari was reelected as Vice President of the country.  Interestingly, Mr. Hamid Ansari made history after becoming the only person after Dr. Radhakrishnan to get a second term as Vice President.  Mr. Ansari backed by UPA defeated NDA candidate Jaswant Singh comprehensively with a large margin of 252 votes.  He got 490 votes against 238 bagged by Singh out of 736 votes polled.  Luck eluded Mr. Ansari recently when he could not make a shift to Rashtrapati Bhavan as Pranab Mukherjee pipped him to the post in the Presidential race and had to settle for a second term in his current office.  He was the second choice of Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the President's post and some brinkmanship by Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav clinched the issue in favour of Mukherjee.

The number 13 has always been considered unlucky and ominous according to the superstitious lot, but for some it is gate of fortune.  One could not get a better example of this other than Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.  First time elected to Lok Sabha on May 13, married on July 13, lived in 13 Talkatora Road for several years, and his office in the parliament was also Room No. 13.  To sum up the lucky series he is now elected as the 13th President of India.

There is a very common saying in our country that should perfectly suit the context.  According to the saying, we do not pay heed to our discrepancies until an outsider points it out.  The point that I would like to make here is that even the subjects of the country are well versed with the fact but it only gained attention when an outside magazine pointed it out.

At a time, when the common man is finding it hard to make a stride and making all possible adjustments for survival with the demon of inflation growing with every passing day, this piece of information would be worth sharing which really keeps India Shining.  The political parties which are supposed to be the representative of the subjects are really beating the inflation in a big way.

 ABDUL-KALAM

Turning Points, a book written by Ex-President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam has become a cynosure not only in media but also in the political circle.  The title seems little ambiguous in defining the real thought process behind it.  The disclosure of some facts which always had a suspense attached to it cleared a lot of cloud but also came up with unanswered questions.
