IG(Zone) Anthony Dev Kumar is confident that the month long Magh Mela will pass off peacefully because of the elaborate security arrangements made. He said that  while the elite Cobra commandos would be keeping a close watch,  the deployment of over 4000 cops including officers and jawans, should make  the Sangam area as safe as a fortress so to say.

The presence of  PAC and RAF jawans,  bomb disposal squads, rescue teams including expert swimmers/drivers and flood rescue personnel will  add to the confidence of the administration. Plans are afoot to equip the security personnel with sophisticated gadgets like miniature surveillance cameras, cyber interceptors and surveillance  software, bullet-proof jackets  and helmets, ballistic  eye-protector goggles, tactical gloves, shoes and bags.
In view of the bad and foggy weather and  the accompanying rain , the rescue teams might be much in demand because of the slippery and muddy roads which may cause mishaps. The authorities would have to be prepared for the worst.  And by this I mean we must not overlook the possibility of stampede on slippery roads during the rush hour. I recall that   the 1954 Kumbh tragedy was caused by the slippery roads, The Nagas  on elephants did scare the people. But had the ground been dry then even if they had run helter-skelter, they might not have slipped, fallen and got crushed under the feet of the fleeing pilgrims. The real threat could be forthcoming from the wet roads.
